The Small Print
Privacy Policy
We don’t do jargon heavy privacy waffle if we can help it. Here’s what we collect, why we collect it, and what your rights are.
Draft Notice
This is a draft starting point and should be reviewed by Jim or a solicitor before the site goes live. It is not tailored legal advice.
Who We Are
Big Jim’s Recovery is a vehicle breakdown recovery and scrap vehicle collection business run by Jim McCann, based at 9 Cannon Street, Salford, M30 0FT, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, Big Jim’s Recovery is the data controller responsible for your personal information, meaning we decide how and why it is collected and used.
You can contact us about anything in this policy at BigJims.content@gmail.com.
What Information We Collect
We collect personal information when you get in touch for a recovery job, a scrap vehicle quote, a quad bike or ATV transport job, or a general enquiry, whether that is through our contact or quote form, by phone, by WhatsApp, by email, or via our social media pages. Depending on how you contact us, this may include:
- Your name
- Phone number and email address
- Vehicle details, such as make, model or registration
- Pickup, breakdown or collection location
- Any other details you choose to give us, such as photos of a vehicle or a description of the job
We also collect some basic technical information automatically when you visit the website, such as device and browser type, so the site keeps working properly.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Respond to your enquiry and arrange recovery, towing or scrap vehicle collection
- Give you a free, no obligation quote and agree a job with you
- Contact you about an ongoing or upcoming job
- Keep basic records for accounting and legal purposes
- Improve our website and the service we offer
We only use your information for the reasons above and we do not sell it to anyone.
Cookies
This website currently uses only the cookies or similar technology needed to make it work properly. It does not use advertising cookies or non essential tracking. If that changes in future, for example if we add analytics to understand how the site is used, we will update this policy and ask for your consent first where the law requires it.
Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your information. We may share it with:
- Trusted service providers who help us run the business, such as our website hosting provider and email provider
- Social media and messaging platforms (including Meta, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok and YouTube) if you choose to contact or interact with us through those channels, each of which has its own privacy policy
- Authorities or professional advisers where we are required to by law, for example for insurance, accounting or legal reasons
How Long We Keep Your Information
We keep enquiry, quote and job information for as long as it is needed to complete the job, deal with any follow-up, and meet our accounting and legal obligations, and no longer than that. After that, it is securely deleted or anonymised.
Your Rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you and get a copy of it
- Ask us to correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Ask us to delete your information where there is no good reason for us to keep it
- Ask us to restrict or object to how we use your information
- Ask us to move your information to another organisation, where technically possible
To use any of these rights, email BigJims.content@gmail.com and we will get back to you.
Contacting Us About Your Data
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your information, get in touch by email at BigJims.content@gmail.com or by post at 9 Cannon Street, Salford, M30 0FT, United Kingdom.
Making A Complaint
We would rather sort things out directly, so please contact us first if you have a concern. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.
Changes To This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example as the business grows or the law changes. Any updates will be posted on this page with a new last updated date below.
